Chief Editor's Note

A renewed scholarly platform for LIS professionals

The upcoming volume 57 No. 01-04 (January-December 2025) of The Lucknow Librarian assembles a strong collection of research that shows how Library and Information Science (LIS) is changing in a time defined by digital integration, sustainability, and user-focused service models. The articles in this issue examine the growing "new normal." They focus on the establishment of HyFlex service models, the smart use of social media, and the increasing importance of virtual and remote library services.

A key theme of this volume is the value and resilience of libraries. Studies on Return on Investment (ROI) show a clear link between library resources and research productivity. Discussions on "Atmanirbhar" libraries advocate for consistent policies and cooperative resource sharing to ensure sustainability. The changes in public libraries, especially in Uttar Pradesh, highlight their transformation into active community information centers.

The exploration of libraries as guardians of cultural heritage and promoters of well-being is equally important. Articles on disaster preparedness stress the need to protect memory institutions, while innovative projects showcase the expanding role of libraries in promoting mental wellness. In technology, investigations into ontology engineering and knowledge representation point to important steps toward improving access to information.

The return of the Lucknow Librarian journal on the auspicious day of Ram Navmi on March 27, 2026, after twenty-seven years, marks a major milestone. Volume 57, No. 01-04 (January-December 2025) reaffirms the journal’s commitment to supporting thorough research and meaningful discussions within the LIS community.
